Weekly Update - The Dawn of Summer + Elections
by Auden Watts
The Dawn of Summer
For most Americonian students, summer break is here! The Charter Arts graduation is set to take place on Monday, June 9th, 2025, and non-seniors concluded their year on June 6th. UFS and SMS had their graduations during this past week as well. Because the school year is over, many Americonians plan to take vacations, reconnect with friends, seek employment, and unwind and relax. The summer marks the end of an eventful year, but new beginnings for our nation's people.
UFA Regular Election
The 2025 Q3 regular election took place during the days leading up to June 6, 2025. Because some citizens were unable to vote, the electoral process is still ongoing. Election results will be revealed to the public as soon as it is constitutional to do so. The election has been slightly controversial as the only presidential candidate on the ballot was Faith Sedicum. Other positions had more candidates on the ballot, but usually not enough to fill the entire office. For example, only two congressional candidates were on the ballot, and the only Cabinet role with a single candidate was the Secretary of Education.
Suspension of Citizens Act
Congress has passed the Suspension of Citizens Act, which "suspends" the citizenship of anyone who is "categorically inactive" in the UFA. To be classified as such, a citizen must not have voted in the most recent election or more than one of the four most recent elections, along with multiple other conditions. Once a citizen is suspended, they may not redeem UBI payments, or count towards census data, and are not required to receive a voting form (see Amendment I). A citizen will automatically be unsuspended if they request such or perform an action that could prevent them from being suspended in the first place. Suspension is not a punishment, but instead an administrative procedure for preserving the UFA's resources. The full law can be read here.
Pride Month
Pride Month is a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and honor its history and culture. It takes place in June in the United States, coinciding with the anniversary of the 1968 Stonewall riots. During this month, pride parades often take place, and it is common for individuals and organizations to display the colors of the rainbow pride flag. More importantly, it is a time to recognize the marginalization that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people still face around the world.

ReplyDeleteBro what
DeleteThe Suspension of Citizens Act is for administrative purposes and is only to be used for citizens who do not engage in the standard functions of civic life within the UFA. It is virtually impossible for anyone who wants to be an active member of the UFA to be suspended, and if they are, they can simple be unsuspended. There is nothing Orwellian about it. Hope this helps! :)
