BREAKING: First Constitutional Amendment Passed by Congress

Congress has voted on an amendment drafted by President Auden Watts and unanimously agreed to pass it. This is the first time in Americonian history that an amendment has been passed by Congress. The amendment bans torture and cruel and unusual punishment. It also prevents citizens from being banned from the UFA without an appropriate conviction, allows the Supreme Court to remove an oppressive President from office, and mandates that every citizen must be given the opportunity to vote before election results can be made official.

The amendment has not been ratified, and may only be ratified following a majority vote from the citizens of the United Friends of America.

The text of the amendment is as follows:

Article One

Neither torture nor cruel and unusual punishment shall be permitted in the United Friends of America or any place subject to its jurisdiction.

Article Two

The results of a regular election shall not be made official until it is determined that every citizen of the United Friends of America was given an opportunity to vote, unless this remains undetermined four days before the end of the quarter, in which case the election results shall take effect as outlined by this Constitution.

Article Three

No citizen, except having been duly convicted by the Supreme Court of an offense punishable by banishment, shall have their citizenship of the United Friends of America revoked.

Article Four

A President who enacts oppressive policies, such that the Supreme Court finds the President guilty of violating the unalienable human rights of any citizen of this nation, shall be unilaterally removed from office by the Supreme Court.

Article Five

Congress shall have the power to enforce these provisions through appropriate legislation.
