They will never understand
The United Friends of America is said to be our great democracy, but lately, it seems as if we're entering what our vice president would call “THE DARK TIMES.” Many citizens seem to treat the UFA more like a fleeting trend than a genuine nation. And those on outside? They're quick to judge, often twisting what we're about and labeling us a cult.
I personally experienced this the other day when talking with a friend outside the UFA. Usually, I enjoy our chats, but this time in conversation, she decided to mock my involvement with the UFA. She questioned why I wasted my time with “that silly group,” and how my other friends and I had the audacity to feel patriotism for a makeshift nation. Honestly though, what struck me worst of all was how she questioned my friendships within the UFA.
They will never understand. The United Friends of America is not “that silly group.” It is an underground student body that has connected so many students from all over schools in Pennsylvania, and from Pennsylvania to Florida, and soon North America to Asia. The UFA isn’t a cult. It is simply a group of kids who hang out and wave flags; who are given the chance to participate in a great democracy.
I have met all of my current friends through the UFA, so I will forever be grateful for it. I will always remember sitting in class when all of the sudden, the kid who always said “yea Keegan” for some reason, stood up behind me and yelled “DEMOCRACY” before asking me to join what he called “our great nation.”
Thanks Auden.
Good fences make good neighbors, and good doorways make good friends. May democracy prevail!
