Recipe Monday - Pilk

by Auden Watts

Pilk is a carbonated beverage that is made by mixing Pepsi (not sponsored) or a similar soft beverage and milk. The name is a portmanteau of Pepsi and milkPilk is categorized as a "dirty soda" because it contains a dairy product. While the idea of Pilk is off-putting to many, there is no reason to be disgusted by the concept. Pilk is no weirder than a cream soda or an ice cream float, and is absolutely delicious in my humble opinion.

The concept of Pilk has existed for decades. The character Laverne DeFazio from the 1976 television program Laverne and Shirley was known for mixing milk with Pepsi. Similarities can also be drawn between Pilk and Doodh soda. Pilk gained additional popularity when Pepsi launched a "Pilk and Cookies" advertisement featuring famous actress Lindsay Lohan. Pilk is also prominent in Americonian culture, having its own official UFA holiday, National Pilk Day.

Every Pilk fan believes they know the perfect ratio of milk to Pepsi, but it really comes down to personal preference. I like a milk to Pepsi ratio of 5:3, but many Pilk drinkers believe that Pilk should contain more Pepsi than Milk. (I call that Mepsi.) You should experiment to find out what works for you!

Ingredients:
  • Milk
  • Pepsi
Step 1: Pour yourself a glass of milk.

Step 2: Add the desired amount of Pepsi.

Fair warning: Pilk is by no means a healthy beverage, as it consists of sugary soda mixed with milk, which is a significant source of fat. Please consume Pilk in moderation, except on National Pilk Day, when you are allowed to consume as much as you want.

If you are vegan, lactose-intolerant, or for some other reason do not drink milk, you may use almond milk, soy milk, oat milk, or any other type of milk. However, when I tried Oat Pilk, it tasted like Pepsi-flavored oatmeal.
