Why I'm Not Running for President

Greetings, fellow citizens. As many of you already know, I , Auden Watts will not be running for President in this upcoming election. This means that March 31, 2025 will be the last day of my Presidency (for now). This has led many to ask one simple question: why?

I believe it is time to hand power to someone else. My vice president and I have won the last two elections by a landslide, with other candidates gaining very few votes, if any. Many citizens are afraid to even run for President as they don't believe they can defeat me -- or they don't want to. This is a problematic state for a democracy to be in. I want to see a contest between opposing ideas. I want to see candidates campaign and show the nation why they deserve the office. Most importantly, I want to see the people decide for themselves. And indeed, rather than campaigning, I want to focus on improving the nation. Rather than making decisions that will make me President, I want to make decisions that make our nation a better place. I have big plans for the last two months of my Presidency, and I want to prioritize our national objectives over my political ones.

Let us not mince words. This is a tumultuous time for our democracy and our nation. Some might argue that right now is the time when my nation needs me the most. But I disagree. Right now, our nation needs you the most. I encourage you all to run for Congress, the Supreme Court, Cabinet, Vice President, and even President. If you have not been in a government position, you are not permitted to run for President. However, all other offices are still on the table. If you can run for President, please do, as I will need a successor. Above all, don't forget to vote!

I also will not be endorsing any presidential candidate in this election, as I want the people to decide for themselves, without my input.

I will be running for Secretary of State, so please vote for me in that office! In addition, I have one more term that I can serve, so I'm not out of the Presidency for good. I will save that term for when I feel the nation really needs it.

Thank you all for your time, and may Democracy prevail.
